Now that Microsoft has followed Adobe's Creative Cloud model and moved to subscription based licensing, we get a lot of questions about which of the various Office packages are best for our clients.
There are currently three plans for business customers with 300 or fewer employees.
Since our last update, Microsoft has streamlined their offerings and adjusted the Office 365 Business option middle teir) to no longer include Exchange email. This is great news! With this option the price has fallen to $8.25/mo for a year contract, or $10/mo on a month-to-month plan.
This option provides access to 5 installs of Office per user, for Macs, PC, and the Office Mobile Suite — all without any of the extra Exchange cloud services you don't need, and it still includes 1TB of OneDrive Storage!
With this service you can easily create an admin account to manage all of your approved users and licenses. It's also simple to add and remove new seats for your organization.
In comparison, purchasing one, standalone seat of Office 2011 with 1 user/1 install is currently $164 at Amazon (although prices fluctuate). 1 year of Office 365 Business is $99/year for 1 user with up to 5 installs! Office 365 also includes future updates. We expect to see Office 2015 (or 2016?) for Mac arriving soon. If you have standalone licenses now, you'll likely will be forced to move over to a subscription plan (a'la Adobe) or possibly pay a premium when the upgrade arrives.
